Welcome to 5th Grade!


Hello students and parents/guardians, I will be your child's Reading and Social Studies teacher at CPES.  First, let me tell you a little bit about me. This is my fourth year teaching Reading and Social Studies in 5th grade at CPES.  This will be my 21st year of teaching.  I graduated from Lipscomb University is 2002 with a bachelor of science degree is Elementary Education.  I am married and have two children.  Megan is 15 and Luke is 13.  I have two dogs named Emma and Ellie.  We live in White House, but I'm originally from NC.  I enjoy spending time with my immediate and extended family.

In class I hope to instill a love for reading.  Reading is very important in school and life.  We will be using a curriculum called CKLA Amplify.  It is great and the students will learn a lot!  There is a unit on Native Americans and another on Don Quixote. In Social Studies we will be learning about TN history and US History, including the how TN got it's name, Native Americans, the Civil War, World War I and II plus much more.

Mrs. Thomas will be your child's Math and Science teacher.  I'll let her tell you what you will be studying!
